Elvis Costumes

Elvis costumes have always been a favourite amongst fancy dress partygoers, as after all who better to impersonate than The King. Elvis costumes can be worn for many different themed parties, either a general fancy dress theme, a Rock n Roll theme, or a 60’s or 70’s theme. Elvis impersonators performing his songs in shows and in pubs also wear Elvis costumes.

Elvis’s career spanned several decades of course and he is known for having many different styles. From his early sharp suits to his military uniform when he was drafted into the US army in 1957, to his sexy black leather outfit that he wore for the ‘68 Comeback special, to his later bejeweled outfits that he wore in Las Vegas, there are lots of styles to choose a costume from.

Probably the most popular style Elvis costume is the white, jeweled jumpsuit with wide belt and cape, finished off with an Elvis wig, sideburns and gold-rimmed shades. You can get lots of variations on this costume, including different colour jumpsuits, some with capes, some without.

All Elvis costumes require an Elvis wig, or Elvis style hair if you’re lucky enough to have that much and be able to style it into a quiff. The wig must be a black rock n roll style with large sideburns. Other Elvis accessories, besides the sunglasses, include gold chains and an inflatable guitar, or a real guitar if you have one, or a microphone. You can get realistic looking glitter effect mics and toy guitars. You could also get a hairy chest wig and some men’s’ platform shoes to complete the outfit.

If you don’t fancy wearing an all in one jumpsuit you can get Elvis costumes that include flared white trousers and a white shirt with sequins, a matching cape and wide sequined belt. The costume shirt has a foam-padded collar to make it stand up as Elvis wore big, stiff collars on his Vegas outfits.

Alternatively you could get a gold lamé 70’s Elvis costume, which includes a gold lamé jacket with shoulder pads, gold sequin detailing around the lapels and the collar, sequin pocket covers and sequin cuffs, and a matching pair of gold coloured trousers. You can complete the outfit with a 70’s frilled shirt.

If you’ve got the physique for it and you want the ladies falling at your feet, you could wear an all black leather outfit, complete with guitar and Elvis wig. Or if you want to be a bit different you could wear an American army costume from the era Elvis was drafted. There are plenty of pictures on the internet of his outfits during different eras so it would be easy to find one and copy it.

Alternatively you could watch one of the numerous movies that Elvis made and copy a costume from one of those, if you were feeling creative. If you’d rather just buy a complete Elvis costume there are lots available, in many styles and for different budgets. You can even get Elvis costumes for your dog!
