Halloween is always the most popular time of year for costume parties and every year people try to think of new and original Halloween costume ideas. If you can’t think of any new or original ideas it’s a good idea to take a classic Halloween costume and give it a twist. Alternatively think of some movies, new or old, that have characters in them on which to base a costume.
This year, 2009, one of the most popular movie choices will be Twillight, following its massive box office success and the worldwide worship of Rob Pattinson (AKA Edward Cullen) and Kristen Stewart (AKA Bella Swan). So vampire costumes look set to make a big comeback - that’s if they ever went away! Now they can be worn as a modern vampire or a more classic Victorian vampire, or any other style of vampire costume you feel like creating.
It’s easy to create your own vampire costume if you want to as you can easily buy fangs, fake blood, and other vampire accessories. If you prefer to buy a vampire costume ready-made there is absolutely loads of choice out there, with many different styles of costumes available to buy. You can get vampire costumes for adults, teens and kids, and there are lots of vampire wigs available to really make a costume look authentic.
Another classic Halloween costume idea that you can take and give a twist to is a witch costume. Think beyond a green face and a pointy nose with a pointy black hat and a black cape. Now you can be a schoolgirl witch or a schoolboy wizard, based on one of the characters from the Harry Potter movies, you can be a colourful witch, a sexy witch, an elegant witch, or a bad fairy.
Some classic Halloween costumes for men include ghosts, werewolves, mummies, skeletons, devils and the Grim Reaper. Some men’s Halloween costumes based on movie characters include Frankenstein, Beetle Juice, Edward Scissorhands, The Joker from Batman and Dawn of The Dead zombies. You could add a twist to something like a zombie costume by making it a punk zombie costume or go in drag as a glamorous witch.
To make things fun you can take a character that is usually good and make an anti-statement by creating a costume for a dark version of the character. For example Alice in Wonderland could become a naughty Malice in Wonderland, or Tinkerbell could become a little devil Tinkerhell! Little angels could become fallen angels and good pixies could turn bad. Doctor and surgeon costumes could easily be converted to bloody doctors and surgeons with some fake blood, and clowns are easy to make them look evil.
There are so many Halloween masks, wigs and other accessories available, such as horns, jewellery and Halloween make-up, that it is easy to create a fantastic costume once you have an idea. If you are stuck for ideas movies and fictional characters from scary stories are always a good place to start. Have a look around the internet for some Halloween images and base a costume on one you like.
