James Bond costumes are the perfect party costumes as they enable you to look glamorous if you wish, rather than just plain silly! They are relatively easy to create as well as there are so many characters from the numerous films that you can base a costume on.
The easiest option for men is just to wear a suit or a dinner jacket and accessorise with a toy gun. And then try to sound like James Bond when you speak and order Martinis “shaken and not stirred” all night!!
The easiest and most glamorous option for ladies is to wear a long evening gown or cocktail dress and wear plenty of make up. If you already own a dress this makes for an easy and inexpensive costume, but you too can accessories with a gun or another James Bond-type gadget.
Following those two easy options of you want to wear a costume that is a little more daring or stand out from the crowd there are some other options. The best idea is to pick a Bond villain or a particular Bond girl and base your costume on them.
Some ideas for Bond girl costumes include the one girl that stays the duration throughout the Bond movies, and that is Miss Moneypenny. You could either wear a pencil skirt suit that you already own, with some spectacles as an accessory or go as a sexy Miss Moneypenny. You can actually get a sexy secretary costume that would do the job perfectly.
Other Bond girls include Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton) in Goldfinger, the one who ended up painted gold from head to toe. So you could wear a tight, metallic gold catsuit to really stand out and glam it up even more with a sixties style wig and lots of make up.
If you are really brave the ultimate Bond girl costume is a white bikini and a conch shell, just like the infamous one Honey Ryder (Ursula Andress) wore in Dr. No. If you’re not so brave you could wear a riding outfit like the sexy Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman) wore in Goldfinger. This may keep you more covered but you’ll look just as stunning, especially if you get a blonde wig in a sixties style.
Quite a few Bond movies were made in the 1960s so any 60’s style outfit would also make a good Bond costume, for men or women. But moving onto the male villains there are plenty to choose from and with a little imagination you could create a fabulous costume.
You could be the very first Bond villain, Dr No (Joseph Wiseman), from the movie of the same name. He is a mad scientist and has metallic hands because he lost his natural hands due to radiation so you could wear black gloves, or even paint your hands. Wear a Dr Evil style suit (Austin Powers) slick your hair back and carry a long cigarette around with you.
There are other fantastic villains you could create a costume for, including Jaws, Blowfeld, Oddbod and Scaramanga. Or bring things up to date and choose a character from the most recent James Bond movies, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.
It can be more fun to get costumes for characters from the older films because fashions were so different. Bond films span the decades from the 1960’s right up to current times so there are a lot of villains, Bond girls and different style Bonds to choose from, but whichever character you choose all James Bond costumes are fantastic fun and very glamorous.
